Many authors submit their manuscript without ever finding out the reason why it has been rejected time and again.  First, many publishing companies do not have the time to even read the endless streams of manuscripts that pass their way.  Second, they are unable to mentor authors who need advice on improving their manuscript or writing skills.

If we feel that your manuscript, following the initial assessment, has unfulfilled potential, we may then offer you Script Surgery.  If you accept, then we will read the manuscript in minute detail and write a report of approximately 2,000 words setting out its strengths and weaknesses and pointing out how we feel the manuscript can be improved.

In addition to this, we make a detailed analysis of the work in which we insert comments into the manuscript (using Microsoft Word’s reviewing facility) highlighting particular passages which need attention. Our comments and guidance will cover everything, including the use of syntax to create more powerful and enduring imagery, punctuation and rhythm, tension, dialogue, characterisation, structure and plotting.

Our aim is that our highly detailed and objective report will result in a manuscript which can be presented to a publisher and stand a good chance of success, but we also want the author to learn valuable lessons in the craft of writing thus adding to his or her skills as a writer.

The manuscript will then be returned to you and, when you have applied our comments, we invite you to send it back to us for a final evaluation.

Please note that our Script Surgery service is run separately to our publishing company.  Please see our FAQ for information on how our publishing side works.  We like to be as transparent as  possible with our clients and there is no guarantee that Script Surgery will lead to your work being taken on by us or another publisher but we know that this service is invaluable to writers whose manuscripts and skills still need crafting.  You may apply for our Script Surgery service separately and submit a manuscript that you know is ‘not quite there’.
